Verrucas

These are often mistaken for corns but are caused by a virus and are very contagious. The surface of the infected skin is generally rough or granular and irregular in shape.

Location:

They are most commonly found on the sole of the foot – in areas of pressure – but can also occur in other areas, including between the toes.

Causes:

Verrucas are caused by a virus, which enters through damaged skin. Swimming baths and changing rooms are a major source of infection. The problem is very prevalent amongst school children.

Treatment:

Most verrucas are only troublesome when they cause pain. Many will disappear by themselves or they can be removed by freeze burning them with liquid nitrogen or by surgical removal.
